Description
Nice, partial collection of brass apothecary or gold scale weights in small wooden stand.Contains 4 original weights:
- 1 ea - 20 grams
- 2 ea - 10 grams
- 1 ea - 2 grams
As you can see in the photos, these four weights have the flattened top on the small pickup knob. Imprinted into this flat knob is the gram weight (i.e. 20 or 10 or 2). This indicates that these are from the mid to late 1800's - according to my research. I would guess these came from Germany but there is no way to be certain. They were used either as apothecary or gold weights - my guess is apothecary since there is no top on the set. There is no indication on the weights or box of the maker or origin country.
The wooden base block also has a pocket for the small flat pieces of metal that are marked in units of centagrams where 100 centigrams is equivalent to 1 gram. These are usually small metal pieces weighing 10 centigrams each and perhaps a 50 centigram chip. This small compartment still has the cover - it is quite rare to have this cover survive. In fact, this item may sell just so someone like me can get the cover piece for their collection.
Measurements of the case are 3 1/8" L X 1 3/8" W X 3/4" H.
By watching carefully here on eBay and in antique stores it will be possible to fill in the three empty weights and some of the centagram chips with matching pieces. I have done so in my own collection.
Please study the photos carefully - this is the exact item and pieces you will receive. If you have a question or wish additional photos please ask via eBay mail.
Thank you for looking at my weights and their box.
